  • House Parent

Job Description: To live with and assume responsibility for the parental-type care of a group of children/teens assigned to live in one cottage.  To supervise household functions involved in family-style living for the group.  The child care parent lives with the group on a 24 hour per day basis and performs all the duties performed by a parent in a normal family, such as:  daily care and supervision, behavior management, performing housekeeping duties, preparing meals, transportation, communication with school and teachers, scheduling of and transporting residents to doctor’s appointments, planning recreational activities, spiritual guidance, conflict resolution, and other duties that pertain to family style living.  House parents will attend church with the residents every Sunday and Wednesday, as well as other special church events.

Children and their welfare is important, therefore the nature of employment is such that all employees must be available when needed.  In the event of an emergency, every employee is expected to be available for any emergency, whether or not the task is included in his/her particular job description.  A house parent is “on duty” 24 hours a day.  House parents are on duty for twenty-one days (usually consecutive) each month and off for seven days. Yearly training is required so applicants need the motivation and desire to learn and develop appropriate child care skills.

Requirements:  High school diploma or equivalent; at least 25 years old; couple preferred, may consider a single applicant with a high level of experience; due to the nature of the position and the attention to numerous residents, prefer applicant to have no young children; child care experience preferred; must have the ability to relate to children, young adults, and adults.  As a faith-based organization supported by the Church of God, our employees must demonstrate and model biblical principles, attend church regularly, have exceptional moral values, be able to guide and lead others in a Christian life-style, refrain from smoking, alcohol/drug use, and offensive language.  Our organization upholds the traditional role of marriage/relationship between one man and one woman.
